Tuen Mun Town Hall | "The Mad Phoenix" by Spring-Time Experimental Theatre
Description
Some say he's a genius!
Some say he's insane!
The legendary life story of renowned playwright, The Madman of Nanjing Road.
Born Jiang Yuqiu, the thirteenth son of a late Qing dynasty historian, The Madman of Nanjing Road stood out with his noble and exceptional character, as well as his outstanding literary talent.
Spoiled and loved by everyone, he often did things 'differently', 'unexpectedly', and 'spectacularly'! His talent made him a famous playwright and composer in the 1920s and 1930s. It is said that he could write four different scripts at the same time, earning him the title of a remarkable genius!
He was affectionate, valued relationships, and was especially devoted. His relationships with friends and family, as well as his mentor-like bond with Sit Jue-sin and his disciple Tang Tik-sang, speak volumes.
He only fell in love once, with a woman who didn't love him back. This led to decades of infatuation, obsession, and even bitter love.
Thirteenth Brother never compromised with his surroundings. He stuck to his ways, living a life of twists and turns, highs and lows. In his later years, he faced a dire situation, ending up destitute and seemingly insane, eventually even homeless!
